What to Remember For Fire Door Safety Week 2022
When it comes to ensuring safety throughout a building, especially in residential properties, fire safety can sometimes be considered less of a priority. But, why is this?
Fire protection systems and other forms of fire safety have saved various lives in the case of emergencies. So, it is important to spread as much awareness across the UK as possible. Find out more about what you should know about Fire Door Safety Week 2022.
Fire Door Safety Week 2022
The first Fire Door Safety Week was held in 2013. It is run by the British Woodworking Federation with assistance from the London Fire Brigade and National Fire Chief’s Council.
The campaign this year is in response to new fire safety regulations and instructions made public in June, which state that Grenfell Tower-style cladding is to be prohibited from use on any buildings in England. On January 23, 2023, the Fire Safety Regulations (England) 2022 are scheduled to take effect. Fire doors at flat entrances should be subject to annual inspections, while those in high-risk residential buildings’ common areas should undergo quarterly inspections.
Due to the passing of Her Majesty The Queen on Thursday the 8th of September, all events have been postponed in respect to the mourning period.
What Should Your Business Do?
Although events may have been pushed back, there is a wide range of fire safety procedures that workplaces can obtain and implement throughout. For example, business owners and other high-ranking authorities should ensure there is a fire safety plan in place in the case of emergencies. Make sure that staff are fully aware of what to do in the event of a fire. If there are any customers inside, they should know how to direct them to safety.
Other fire safety procedures include:
- Keeping escape routes clear
- Fire doors remaining open
- Fire protection systems such as sprinklers.
Fire sprinklers are an ideal solution for businesses worried about their fire safety. Commercial fire sprinklers are an affordable system that contributes to preventing both property damage and human lives inside. These sprinkler systems are a useful way to protect a business and its productivity even though they are not legally required.
The Benefits of Fire Sprinklers
In certain situations, it may take longer periods for the fire to go noticed and sirened. This time could mean that those inside have a shorter amount to safely evacuate the property. That’s why fire sprinklers should always be considered in these situations. Each individual fire sprinkler head operates independently of one another. So, if one head detects a high temperature, this won’t set the rest of them off.
Fire sprinklers are fast-acting and highly reliable for fire safety procedures. They can easily be incorporated into any fire safety plan. The sprinklers would do their job. They release the right amount of water to suppress flames, allowing people to evacuate and wait for the emergency services to arrive.
