Which Rooms Would Benefit From Sprinkler Heads in Homes?
At RAD, we install sprinkler heads in a variety of residential and commercial buildings. Our experts understand where to locate these heads for the best results in the case of a fire. However, there are certain rooms that would benefit more from the inclusion of sprinklers than others. Find out more about which rooms would benefit the most in a home sprinkler system here.
Kitchen Sprinkler Systems
Pretty much, most residential fires start in the kitchen. That’s because there is a wide range of dangers when it comes to cooking. Though we always advocate remaining resilient and careful when cooking, sometimes accidents just happen.
Having sprinkler heads in the kitchen will ensure that the flames do not get any bigger and spread to other areas of the house. As they are activated by heat and only heat, you don’t have to worry about getting drenched due to any smoke. The sprinklers will only go off when a temperature of over 56°C.
Loft Conversions
In the UK, many homes have utilised their space and converted lofts into rooms such as bedrooms and for entertainment. Instead of just a place to store the junk you can’t get rid of (we’re thinking gifts from certain family members), homeowners are transforming these places into more social areas. So, like the rest of the house, the installation of sprinkler heads should be considered.
When it comes to loft conversion fire regulations, although they don’t necessarily cover sprinklers, there is a wide range of benefits of having a home sprinkler system throughout the entire house (including the highest room). This way, you can save costs on more expensive fire protection systems, such as fire doors and other fireproofing materials. Also, if evacuation is needed, the person will have to escape down the stairs, which can take some time. Sprinklers will activate automatically to suppress the flames and stop the fire from spreading. Allowing more time for people to safely evacuate and wait for emergency services.
Bedrooms
Most of us probably use heating appliances to remain toasty during the winter months. Yet, this is one of the main causes of electrical fires and if they are left unattended or on for too long, this can cause a fire to break out. And, since your bedroom will have a variety of fabrics around (including bedding and clothes), these can easily catch on fire, spreading the flames.
Therefore, why not consider sprinklers in your bedroom? There’s a possibility that an emergency could occur whilst you are asleep. So, what if you only wake up when it’s too late? This way, sprinklers will automatically suppress the flames, alerting and allowing you enough time to safely evacuate.
Garages and Basements
Garage fires can easily spread to other areas of the house, as well as harm the objects you store there, including your own automobile. This makes them incredibly destructive, yet typically they are overlooked.
People pose a bigger fire risk in a garage because they typically don’t take as many measures or pay as much attention to preventing house fires there. This is especially true when you consider that the majority of garages include combustible items and other easily ignitable materials. So, installing sprinkler heads can help save your car and other appliances from fire damage. For more information on fire regulations in basements, read our previous blog here.
