How Much Does a Domestic Fire Sprinkler System Cost?
Each home, student accommodation, care home or another residence we fit a domestic fire sprinkler system in, is different, so costing is completely bespoke. Also, the requirements for building control can differ greatly.
However, there are a few things we take into consideration when giving an estimate:
The size of the home
The larger the house, the larger the cost of the domestic fire sprinkler system – because there will be more sprinkler heads and piping, which takes longer to fit.
The number of sprinkler heads
You may want your whole house covered by the system or only parts of it – this will affect the estimate of the cost of a domestic fire sprinkler system also.
Retrofit / new build
Fitting a system into a new build is always easier, as access to the ceiling space where the pipes go is exposed and we can fit in with other trades, such as plumbers and electricians, working together to install all that’s needed for our respective jobs.
Fitting into an older property retrospectively is slightly harder as we have to fit around what’s already there, but we do a comprehensive site visit to find this out and give an estimate accordingly for the domestic fire sprinkler system.
Mist V Domestic Fire Sprinkler System
Your home may dictate the system that we fit:
Sprinkler: The main difference is that this system requires a water storage tank, usually stored in the eaves or a loft, which the water is drawn from if the system is activated.
We need to find space for this tank and if there isn’t space, then we would possibly turn to the mist option as the solution.
Mist: This system draws water from your mains water and converts it into mist vapour in the event of activation.
Do I need to get a plumber to help?
No – we will supply and fit the system for you, and the client’s contractors would assist with any enabling work required which we would plan in advance. We always work alongside other contractors if they too are working on your property to ensure the project runs smoothly.
Other costs to consider:
Redecoration:
If we are retro-fitting, fitting a domestic fire sprinkler system into an older house and need access to the ceiling, loft or other areas, there may be some making good to do in terms of redecoration. We do aim for minimal disruption, but with all home projects, sometimes there is some finishing off to do. Always ask us to fit the system before any big decorating jobs are undertaken if possible!
Water pressure:
You may also have to think about water pressure. We will test your pressure to ensure it is enough to support the system you have fitted, but if it is not enough, then you may need to seek some additional advice. We will advise you on this and guide you through the process as you may need to involve your local water board.
