Granville Road Project Details
- Granville Road, Sevenoaks
- 7 apartments complex
- Woodland location
- Sprinkler system
- Open plan design
- 3 weeks on site
RAD Fire Sprinklers worked with the developers of this unique project of seven woodland apartments.
Built to a very high spec with a beautiful finish, a sprinkler system was required for each, to allow the open plan design.
Sprinkler System
The mains sprinkler system was chosen over the mist system for this project, because there was adequate storage for a water tank. Mist would have been uneconomical in this development.
The system was connected to a new mains supply, with a valve set to each apartment using Rapidrop sprinklers protection.
Open plan, restricted fire rescue access
Building regulations would require walls to be built to meet fire standards, but a sprinkler system allowed the open plan-designed homes to be protected in the event of a fire.
Being built in a woodland setting also meant that in the event of a fire, a fire engine would not be able to access the rear of the homes very easily, so a sprinkler system was a sensible choice and one that supports the building regulations fire aspect.
Blended in
Aesthetics were important to the design of the apartments and so we worked together with the developer, who we’ve previously worked with many times, to ensure the one or two sprinkler heads fitted in each room, became an invisible part of the design.
Collaboration
Each differently designed home required a different sprinkler system layout to work with the lighting layout within each apartment.
One of the challenges which is fairly common with new builds is space – finding room in the cavities to fit the necessary pipes and water storage tank.
We were on site for three weeks, working with other trades to install the system, liaising with them on how pipes, electrical wiring and the sprinkler system would be fitted alongside one another.
